About the Band

Svaťa Kotas Band patří k výrazným představitelům českého progresivního bluegrassu a novoakustické hudby. Kapelu založil v roce 2003 banjista, skladatel a producent Svatoslav Kotas (ex Poutníci, Fragment), který na sebe výrazně upozornil už kultovní deskou Pozdě v noci (Late At Night) z roku 1993 — albem, jež bývá označováno za jednu z prvních českých nahrávek moderní new acoustic music a získalo uznání i v USA.

Svaťa Kotas Band is one of the most distinctive voices in Czech progressive bluegrass and new acoustic music. The band was founded in 2003 by banjoist, composer and producer Svatoslav Kotas (formerly of Poutníci and Fragment), who first made his mark with the cult solo album Pozdě v noci (Late At Night) in 1993 — widely regarded as one of the earliest Czech recordings in the modern new acoustic tradition and acclaimed in the United States.

Hudba Svaťa Kotas Bandu propojuje bluegrass, folk, swing a contemporary acoustic music s důrazem na autorskou tvorbu, propracované aranže a vícehlasý zpěv. Kapela navazuje na bohaté zkušenosti svých členů z projektů jako Fragment, Drive, Benefit, Horizont nebo Deep Purple Revival Brno a během let si vybudovala pověst originální koncertní formace s osobitým akustickým zvukem.

The music of Svaťa Kotas Band weaves together bluegrass, folk, swing and contemporary acoustic music, with a strong emphasis on original songwriting, sophisticated arrangements and close-harmony singing. The band draws on the broad experience its members bring from projects such as Fragment, Drive, Benefit, Horizont and Deep Purple Revival Brno, and over the years has earned a reputation as a truly original live act with a distinctive acoustic sound.
